The Book Odyssey

When I was growing up and first discovered Atascadero California, it was a small fishing community on the Pacific Ocean about an hour north of Cabo, Baja California. Back then, it was simply known as ""Atascadero"" or simply ""The fishing hole."" It is home to one of the last authentic fishing holes in Baja California Mexico. I remember my father telling me stories about this place and all the stories he collected over the years about the fishing community.

My fascination with this place came when I happened to notice an article in Life Magazine in which author Russ Watson talked about his childhood and how he picked up every publication that had a fishing story in it. So, I began to search for more information about this fishing spot. To my amazement, I found that Atascadero is not only one of the best fishing spots in Baja California Mexico but is also one of the last authentic ones left in the area. That became my mission and reason to go there.

The story inside The Book Odyssey about Atascadero is incredible. I learned about the fishermen that settled in this area over a century ago and the kinds of fishing that they did. I especially enjoyed learning about the methods that were used to bait fish and the kinds of lures that were popular at the time. Some of the lures that they used are like big flat fish baits.

The book also tells you just about everything you could ever need to know about fishing in the area. You'll learn about the kind of boat you need to get out there and the equipment that you'll need. You'll see all kinds of different types of fish in the area, including sharks. However, that is only what makes this book interesting to read. The real treasure is the history that goes along with it, about the early people who lived in this area and the fishing that they did.

I have taken several fishing vacations in the Santa Barbara area in recent years and The Book Odyssey has made them even more exciting. If you are like me, you spend a lot of time fishing, so you definitely want to add this book to your fishing library. My wife, on the other hand, loves to go camping and hiking. This book makes the perfect addition to our collection of great books about camping. I look forward to trips to the mountains and waters of Catalina Island and Inland Empire whenever we get the chance.

The author of this fishing classic, Frank Hazard, wrote The Book Odyssey in his own voice. It is a wonderful book and one that anyone can enjoy. If you like stories about old fishing lures and jolly old men telling them to you, then this is the book for you. You'll find yourself going back to it again.
